This house was here for fifty years before the University Club next door was built! The house was built with the latest technology of the time, including gas lighting and hot and cold running...

A quilt can be something to keep you toasty warm on a chilly night, but it can also be a work of art. Quilts today are often created as serious artistic expression, but quilters of earlier centuries also could focus their work on artistry as much as utility. Textile curator Linda McShannock shows us some of her favorite examples of these artistic quilts from the Society's collection, ranging in date from the 18th Century to the present.

Well, that's the full route for our walking tour today. Thanks so much for joining me as we explored just a little section of St. Paul's Summit Avenue. Now, if you're not done walking, I recommend venturing off onto any of the side streets to see more of the area. If you're hungry, keep walking to Western Avenue, take a left, and in a few blocks you'll see many great food options -including Nina's Cafe, a coffee shop located right above Garrison Keillor's bookshop, Common Good Books. Also on...

Here we are at 445 Summit, a superb example of another house style popular in the 1880s and 1890s, called Queen Anne. This house is believed to be the first Queen Anne-style house in St. Paul. It was started in 1882, and many local architectural historians consider it one of the finest examples of the style in the city. Why? Well, quite a few of the architectural details that make up the Queen Anne style can be seen here, combined in a visually pleasing manner to give it subdued architectural...
